A commercial washer is the best option to efficiently and thoroughly clean gear. According to NFPA guidelines, any machine used to clean gear cannot be used to launder any other clothing due to the risk of contaminating the goods and the washer should be set to only extract at 100G’s to gently remove excess water. Gear should also not be washed at a temperature greater than 105 degrees. Commercial washers can be programmed to meet the requirements for the NFPA and PPE manufacturers and they will provide many more years of service than traditional home-style washers.
Firehouse Duty FC-20 Drying Cabinet
The B&C Technologies FC-20 Firedryer is specially designed for drying heavy-duty overalls. With efficient and gentle drying action, the dryer can hold 6 sets of turnout gear making it a necessity for fire departments and other industries. The unique drying process dries the gear from both the inside and outside. Fans direct heated air over the outside of the gear while a second system dries from the inside, directing the air through specially designed hangers to the interior of the gear. The FC-20 dries with no mechanical tumbling action, extending the service life of the fabric, as well as the life of the zippers, reflective tapes, and other components.
Firehouse Duty XControl+ Washer-Extractors
Fire contaminants can expose firefighters to cancer-causing carcinogens and eventually weaken the gear meant to protect them. Blood and body fluids can further expose them to deadly diseases. That’s why the NFPA recommends washing soiled turnout gear immediately after exposure to fire or body fluids. The NFPA also warns against cleaning gear in homes or public laundries to avoid cross-contamination. Our firehouse washer-extractors properly clean turnout gear, removing contaminants and biohazards while preserving fabric integrity. Our washers feature a programmable control – ensuring water temperatures, extract speeds, cleaning chemicals, fill levels, and cycle times are perfectly formulated to properly clean and decontaminate turnout gear according to manufacturer recommendations. Our firehouse washer-extractors are designed with the future in mind and are programmable to handle future changes in protective fabrics. Thus, fire departments can feel secure knowing their investment will handle their laundry needs today and tomorrow.
